REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY

All Lakeside Massage Therapists are Registered and in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia, each with a unique skill set, and individual massage style. Our therapists use a variety of techniques to treat a wide array of conditions and injuries, while also minimizing stress to restore optimum health.

Massage integrates a variety of manipulations that focus primarily on the various layers of muscle, tendinous, ligamentous and fascial tissues. Techniques such as Swedish massage, kneading, joint mobilization, trigger-point therapy, passive range of motion and stretching, are all effective in reducing areas of tension/pain, increasing circulation, as well as influencing general body awareness and relaxation. The depth of pressure used can be varied and tailored to each client’s comfort or preference.

Whether you are booking a massage to address a specific injury, release stress, or maintain joint and muscle function, you will leave feeling a sense of relaxation and wellbeing.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE THERAPY

Registered Massage Therapists provide safe, effective treatments to expecting mothers. Prenatal and postnatal massage can help ease the physical discomforts, and changes in the body often associated with pregnancy and labour. Massage helps relieve muscle tension, nerve compression and stress related to these body changes so that the expecting mother can feel comfortable during this time.

At Lakeside Massage Therapy we offer the use of our pregnancy pillows made specifically for expecting mothers that will allow you to lie safely on your front during treatment. Most women find these pillows extremely comfortable right up until their due date. Side lying and other treatment positions can be used if these pillows are not comfortable for you. A 60 min treatment time is recommended for prenatal massages, allowing extra time to unwind and receive all the benefits of the massage. Please let us know ahead of time if you are expecting, so we can have the table comfortably set up for you.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a 3000+ year old practice which has always looked at the whole person. The body’s systems are observed to see how they are functioning with each other. Emotions and mental states are included with this. The body is linked together by a vast system of meridians or channels, which connect one part to another just like our nerves, or blood vessels or fascia. In todays terms it is a biopsychosocial model of health. This is an interdisciplinary model that looks at the interconnection between biology, psychology, and socio-environmental factors.

Our Registered Acupuncturists work with the individual where they are at. The entire person is taken into account when deciding on a treatment plan. Incorporated in Acupuncture treatments are the modalities of Needling, Cupping, Gua Sha (skin scraping), Tui Na (Chinese style massage), acupressure, nutritional counselling, and lifestyle recommendations (such as mindfulness or breathing techniques).

All or some of these modalities may be used in a single treatment. The treatment will often combine hands on techniques such as massage in combination with needles to create a more grounded treatment.

Acupuncture aims to tap into the nervous system and this is one of the most important factors of regaining balance in the body. Balance between the sympathetic (fight, flight or freeze) and the parasympathetic (rest, digest and think) is created so all the other systems can work more optimally. Pain will feel less, digestion will be more effective, thinking will be clear, sleep will become more restful.

Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions. The World Health Organization recognizes 31 conditions in which Acupuncture is proven to be effective. Some conditions include:
Musculoskeletal Pain or injury rehabilitation and support, Headache support, Migraine management, Chronic or Persistent Pain management, Mental health Support (such as stress, burnout, anxiety, depression or post traumatic stress), Concussion or traumatic brain injury management, Preventative health, and Immunity support.
